Duties:

Appraise various types of real estate by applying the three approaches to value.

Responsibilities include data collection, working building permits, reviewing, measuring and sketching property.

Analyze recent sales using statistical models to reassess property.

Tactfully handle property appeals with taxpayers.

 

Skills Preferred:

Associate’s degree or higher in business or related field from an accredited college.

Experience appraising real estate or a combination of equivalent education and experience.

Strong computer skills and technical background.

Ability to analyze statistical data and calculate numbers.

Valid Virginia driver’s license.

REAL ESTATE ASSESSOR 

Responsible and accountable for the administration and supervision of the Real Estate Assessment Division. Manages and supervises professional, technical, and administrative support staff. Directs an effective and comprehensive assessment program for the County. Oversees, provides guidance, and participates in an annual reassessment of real property parcels in the County, coordinating proper designation of land uses and ownership. Provides real estate related data/information to various county agencies. Administers the Land Use Program. Responsible for appraising real property, and represents the Assessor's office before governing bodies, taxpayers, and the general public. Work is performed under minimal supervision of the County Administrator.  Individual selected must be certified by the Virginia Tax Commissioner.  Base salary $63,070 or higher commensurate with experience, qualifications; excellent benefits.

Requires a Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, accounting or a related field and 5-7 years of experience in assessment and appraisal, including 3 years of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Business Audit Supervisor

This position performs difficult to complex professional work conducting financial and compliance audit examinations of businesses operating within City limits to ensure proper application and enforcement of City tax ordinances.  The position supervises the Business Auditors.

The position requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Finance, or a related field with course work equivalent to a major concentration in accounting and extensive experience in accounting and/or auditing including some supervisory experience.

County Assessor
